Soy Candle Care + Tips

Welcome to Candle Care 101!

The first burn is most important.

Upon lighting for the first time, make sure to burn long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the container. If the candle is not allowed to melt to the edge, especially on first burn, a memory ring can form and make the candle tunnel for all future burns. This will drastically decrease your burn time and your fragrance throw for the life of your candle.

Initial Burn Times by Candle Width

This is just a rough guide. It is best to burn the candle for as long as it takes for the melted wax pool to reach the outer edge.

More Tips

  1. Trim the wick. Keep your wick trimmed to 1/4" at all times.
  2. Let the wax pool. When lighting your candle for the first time, and each time thereafter, allow the wax to melt all the way out to the diameter of its container. Soy has memory. If your candle is extinguished prior to allowing a full melt pool, all future melt pools will not go past the first one. Once the melted wax reaches the container, allow it to melt until 1/4” deep. This is called a melt pool. This is also where all of that fragrant aroma is released. If you cannot smell the aroma, it means that the jar is too small for the area. Consider placing a couple candles in one room to increase its aromatic benefit.
  3. To get the biggest, boldest scent possible, allow the entire top layer to become a fragrant pool of liquid wax each time you burn your candle.
  4. Burn it safely. Always burn your candle on a heat resistant surface, keep it out of drafts and never leave it unattended while lit. Allow the candle to cool completely before handling. Do not burn candles for longer than 4 hours at a time.
  5. Allow your candle to harden should your candle sweat or melt. Then use as usual. Keep your candle protected from extreme heat.
  6. Discontinue use when wax reaches 1/2” deep.
  7. Clean jar or candle tin with warm, soapy water, allow to dry and reuse.
